Some of the best things I've ever discovered as a traveler we're not places I learned about by word of mouth, a travel website, or a travel book. It was by simply getting in my car and driving in any and all directions and once in a while when something piqued my interest getting out and taking a walk. Whatever direction my heart desired at the moment. A traveler without a pause (a destination - get it?).
The Sounds of Silence: A Travelers Faithful Companion
...unlike the song, the sound of silence isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes it's exactly the thing you need to truly take in an experience. And sometimes, that's exactly what you need when you're traveling...silence.
Jacksonboro SC PART 1: Stranger Things are Afoot in the Graveyard at the Pon Pon Chapel of Ease!
One thing a Back Road Warrior hopes for when they are out exploring is an adventure. And folks, today this Back Road Warrior was not disappointed. I began the day by trekking south off of Alternate Highway 17 in Cottageville SC via Jacksonboro Rd to Charleston Highway (aka Hwy 64), to about a mile shy of Jacksonboro, SC.
Trippin’ Tunes
There are three things I like a lot in this world: traveling, food, and music! The best part about it is...these three things go together like peas and carrots, sausage and gravy, peanut butter and jelly...and...ah...you get the point. They were meant for each other!
Why the Back Roads?
The state of South Carolina is divided into three sections. The Upstate (the foothills and mountains), the Piedmont (the hill country), and the Lowcountry (the coast and swamp lands). My family and I live in the Lowcountry (though, we are pretty close to the Piedmont), and my wife's family lives in the Piedmont. When we pay them a visit I tend to take the back roads.
The BRW Travel Rating System
Everyone who has ever seen a travel blog, food blog, or review site (i.e. Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc.) knows that each one has its own rating system.
So Much Travel – So Little Money
My wife and I frequently talk about taking off to unbelievable destinations and escaping real life, if even for a week. We dream about hidden islands, bungalows by the sea, ancient city ruins, European destinations, Ireland (I mean...who doesn't dream about Ireland?), the Far East, and on and on it the dreams go. But, there's one problem...we are flat out broke!
