Some of the best things I've ever discovered as a traveler we're not places I learned about by word of mouth, a travel website, or a travel book. It was by simply getting in my car and driving in any and all directions and once in a while when something piqued my interest getting out and taking a walk. Whatever direction my heart desired at the moment. A traveler without a pause (a destination - get it?).
Why the Back Roads?
The state of South Carolina is divided into three sections. The Upstate (the foothills and mountains), the Piedmont (the hill country), and the Lowcountry (the coast and swamp lands). My family and I live in the Lowcountry (though, we are pretty close to the Piedmont), and my wife's family lives in the Piedmont. When we pay them a visit I tend to take the back roads.
The BRW Travel Rating System
Everyone who has ever seen a travel blog, food blog, or review site (i.e. Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc.) knows that each one has its own rating system.
So Much Travel – So Little Money
My wife and I frequently talk about taking off to unbelievable destinations and escaping real life, if even for a week. We dream about hidden islands, bungalows by the sea, ancient city ruins, European destinations, Ireland (I mean...who doesn't dream about Ireland?), the Far East, and on and on it the dreams go. But, there's one problem...we are flat out broke!
