South Carolina is generally broken up into 5 recognized regions (though it could be argued there may be more):
NOTE: click on a region below to explore the legends & lore of this region
The 5 regions start on the East Coast of the United states, working their way through hill country, then foothills, and finally landing in the mountains.
The entire state can be driven from Lowcountry to the Upstate in 3.5 hours, so someone can literally be on the beach in the morning and in the mountains by lunch time.
In between the coast and mountains along the I-26 corridor, as well as along I-95, you will find some large cities including:
- Charleston / Hilton Head / Beaufort (Lowcountry)
- Myrtle Beach / Florence (Pee Dee)
- Columbia (Midlands)
- Greenville / Greer / Spartanburg (Piedmont & Upstate)
In between those cities is 32,020 square miles of back roads and small towns, many of which have been around long before the US Revolution, and they are ripe for the exploring.
It’s in those small towns (and even the larger cities) that we find legends & lore that span our present time all the way back to when the land was home to only the Native Americans.
And it is those legends & lore that this site will explore.
So put on your fedora, leather jacket, and your whip – it’s time to explore!
